Big Island Interpreters

Image
On the first Saturday of November, the Big Island Deaf Club celebrated a Thanksgivings Feast at the pavilion in Laupahoehoe Point. Also, a group of ASL interpreters instead of just individuals (as often), visited and greeted the Big Island Deaf Club's Saturday gathering. Mary Love, Helle, Michael, Carrie and Dano are a group of freelance American Sign Language/ English interpreters collaborating on the Big Island to provide services. They introduced themselves because a few of them are new to the local deaf community. For the first time in the history this Fall, the interpreters developed their own Facebook page (Big Island Interpreters) and their own website www.bigislandinterpreters.com . Their goal is to promote ASL interpreted events and provide equal access to the Deaf community of Hawaii Island.  It was a great time to learn more about them. The Thanksgiving potluck meal was also tasty. The Big Island now has a stronger ASL heritage.
