Lava flow community meeting in Pahoa on September 11.

Hawaii County Civil Defense and the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory will hold additional community meetings on Thursday, Sept. 11 to update residents on the lava flow in the Wao Kele O Puna area. Lava flow The briefing will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Pahoa High School cafeteria. The ASL interpreter will be available there.

Dr. Edwin Parks passed away on August 21, 2014 Services Sept 5th

Dr. Edwin Parks passed away on August 21, 2014. Services will be at the Dodo Morturary in Hilo on September 5, 2014. He was married to Marjorie. He will be missed as a very important member of the deaf community in Hawaii. Please also see dodomortuary.com Dr. Edwin James Parks, 83, of Kurtistown, he passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Hilo Medical Center. He born on May 25, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois; he was a retired Chemist at the National Institute of Science and Technology. He was a part-time Sign Language Teacher for Hawaii Community Schools for Adults and a Substitute teacher at Keaau, Waiakea, and Kamehameha Schools. He also was a member of the Multiple Association of the Deaf. Friends may pay their respects on Friday, September 5, 2014, at Dodo Mortuary Chapel, Visitation from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Memorial services at 6 p.m. Casual attire He is survived by sons, Howard (Linda) Parks of Silver Springs, Maryland, Olin (Stacy) Parks and Gordon (Kimberly) Parks of Kurtistow
